Mobile app designer: UX and UI for phones and tablets

The roleWhat does a mobile app designer do
A mobile app designer designs how apps work and look on phones and tablets. The job covers mobile UX design (user flows, navigation, gestures and wireframes) and UI (screens, components and visual style) for iOS and Android.
A typical task: a banking app wants faster money transfers. The mobile UX designer maps the current flow, cuts it from seven taps to four, designs the screens following iOS and Android guidelines, tests the prototype with five users and hands over specs to developers.
Some companies call the role mobile UX designer or UX designer mobile; others use product designer for the same work.
Mobile app designers work at product companies, banks, retailers, startups and agencies. In product teams they usually own one area of the app, while agency designers create apps for several clients in different industries. A mobile app designer often works with both.
