IT auditor: checking that technology is safe and under control

The roleWhat does an IT auditor do
An IT auditor checks whether a company’s technology is managed safely and according to rules: who can access systems, how changes are approved, how backups work and whether security controls actually function. The result is an audit report with findings and recommendations.
A typical task: a SaaS company prepares for its first SOC 2 report. The auditor reviews access lists and finds that three former employees still have accounts, checks that code changes go through review, tests backup restores and documents each finding with evidence.
The title information systems auditor is common in banks and large firms. A junior IT auditor usually starts in the Big Four or in internal audit teams.
