Senior Backend Software Engineer at Zoolatech

ABOUT THE PROJECT

This is a long-term project for a major player in the online job and career marketplace industry. The team is focused on building scalable and reliable services to support high-traffic applications that help millions of users find the right job. The project already exists and is in a stable yet constantly evolving phase, requiring strong engineers to drive improvements and new features.

REQUIREMENTS

– 5+ years of backend engineering experience with production-grade systems.
– Expert proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Gradle, and microservices.
– Strong RESTful API design skills and understanding of API lifecycle best practices.
– Proficiency with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) or similar.
– Experience in distributed systems, fault-tolerant service design, and performance tuning.
– Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
– AI Fluency: ability to work with AI-driven requirements, integrate LLM-based workflows, understand API patterns for AI services, and build backend features that support AI-enabled product experiences.
– Experience with asynchronous messaging (Kafka, RabbitMQ) or event-driven design.
– Familiarity with GraphQL, API gateways, or hybrid API ecosystems.
– Exposure to LLM/AI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) or developing AI-enhanced features.
– Prior remote contracting or cross-functional leadership experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

– Design and develop scalable, maintainable backend services using Java + Spring Boot.
– Build high-quality RESTful APIs to support frontend experiences and internal workflows.
– Improve service reliability, performance, and code quality across the backend ecosystem.
– Collaborate closely with product, design, and frontend engineering to deliver cohesive experiences.
– Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, and solution brainstorming.
– Troubleshoot complex backend issues across distributed systems.
– Contribute to integrating AI-powered features, ensuring services can support LLM-driven or intelligent user experiences.
